The First International Academic Symposium on Civilization Exchange and Mutual Learning between China and African Arab Countries, along with the Fourth Symposium on Chinese and Arab Civilizations, took place on April 14 in Algiers, Algeria.
Organized by Northwest University in Xi’an, Algiers Third University, the Chinese Embassy in Algeria, and other institutions, the symposium created a high-end platform for academic exchange between Chinese, African, and Arab civilizations.
Over 60 scholars from 13 countries, including China, Algeria, and Egypt, joined more than 300 participants from Algiers Third University and representatives from global media outlets. The discussions covered mutual learning, governance, cultural exchanges, and economic cooperation.
In a video message, Sun Qingwei, president of Northwest University, noted the significance of the "China-Africa Cultural Exchange Year" and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and African and Arab nations. He highlighted the successful cultural exchanges and modernization efforts as a model for "global South" collaboration.
Sun outlined Northwest University's research on the Silk Road and Arab countries and its role in previous Sino-Arab conferences. He expressed hope that the symposium would deepen academic exchanges and support modernization efforts between China, Africa, and Arab states.
The event featured keynote speeches and discussions on various topics, resulting in the "Algiers Consensus," which proposed initiatives such as respecting sovereignty, celebrating cultural diversity, and enhancing international security cooperation.
An exhibition showcased recent academic achievements in Sino-Arab exchanges. The symposium provided a valuable dialogue platform, contributing insights to the joint modernization efforts of "Global South" countries. Participants committed to ongoing exchanges to build a community with a shared future.
